Many years ago one of David Carter's mentors remarked
that "change isn't constant around here,
it's much more frequent than that!" This simple but profound statement
remains true today and
should be a key consideration in managing people and organisations. The best
strategic plan will
fail to achieve its intended objectives without an effective change and transition
process that has:
- A vision of the future with leaders
passionate to make it a reality.
- Clearly articulated reasons for change.
- Commitment of all stakeholders to undertake
the transition journey.
- Capacity to implement change in terms
of people, financial and logistical resources.
- A transition plan with the first steps
loaded for success.
- A monitoring process to keep things
on track.
- Celebration of success along the way.
Change by its very nature is in a constant state of
flux so it is difficult to pinpoint a beginning and an end. As one
phase concludes, the next phase has already begun. In reality the
change process never ends. Our experience shows that it is easier
to manage change and transition by using the following road map.
